Do you have the correct information to complete a Tustin business license application?

To complete your business license application you will need to have information on your business, yourself, and all owners of your business. Some of the business information includes the type of ownership of your business, that is, whether you own it solely, are a part owner, or are part of a limited liability corporation. You may need to obtain a federal employer’s ID number, a state employer’s ID number, and a seller’s permit number depending on the type of ownership and the nature of your business. Your business will need a name, a physical and mailing address, an e-mail, cell phone, website, and a main business line. The name, home address, phone number, and driver’s license number of each owner should be provided. You need to declare the number of employees you will be hiring, a description of your business activities, and the date that your business will commence. When you have completed this application, you will need to sign it denoting that you are providing only true and complete information. There is a section of ‘yes or no’ questions following the business license application that serves to collect information on your business location and your business activities. A permit screening form for the Orange County Fire Authority needs to be completed. This form is a questionnaire that will determine if your business is in compliance with all hazardous materials codes, that your business is not in violation of any laws regarding businesses in a 1,000 foot radius of K-12 school property, etc. If you need any assistance completing your business license application or the screening permit, please contact the Finance Division at (714) 573-3144.

Are you going to operate your Tustin business from your home?

If you are planning to operate your business from your place of residence, you will need to complete a home occupation questionnaire in addition to your business license and permit screening questionnaire. The home occupation questionnaire can be found online at the City of Tustin website and has questions regarding aspects of your home business, such as where your business parking will be located, whether you are planning to hire employees, if you will have clients visiting your home to conduct business, etc. A description of your business activities and information about the physical location are included in the questionnaire as well. You will need to comply with conditions with Tustin City Code Section 9297, which outlines the definition of a home occupation and all regulations and restrictions associated with home occupations. Your signature stating that all information that you have provided is true and correct is needed to complete the questionnaire.

What costs are you expected to pay for a Tustin business license?
