Do you plan to operate a Temecula home business?

Home occupations are acceptable in Temecula. It is recommended that you contact the Planning Department for information on home occupation. You can print the application for a home occupation from the Temecula City website. A home occupation has specific regulations and conditions that need to be abided by to avoid your license being denied or revoked. If you do not own the property in which you live and your business will be conducted from, you will need to have a letter from the owner or property manager authorizing you to use your home for business activities. Other conditions include not altering your home to make it recognizable as a home business, not displaying or selling goods from your home, not using signs or advertising to identify your home as a home occupation, etc. 

When you have read and understand all the items of regulation pertaining to a home occupation, you will need to sign the application stating that you will comply with all rules and conditions associated with a home occupation. You will need to include a statement of operations which is a statement written to outline the request for a home occupancy license. It is essentially a written description of your business activities, the hours that you intend to operate your business, the number of employees that you plan to hire, and any other pertinent information that you feel should be included in your statement. When you have completed your home occupancy license application, you will return it along with your business license application and a one-time fee for filing costs to City Hall. 

What information is included on a Temecula business license application?

Your business license application serves to register your business with the city of Temecula. The application therefore collects information about your business such as business and owner contact information, ownership type (whether solely owned, part of a corporation, a partnership, LLC or trust) and emergency contact information. Some information will be provided based on the ownership type, such as a federal employer’s ID number for those businesses that are involved in a partnership or part of a larger corporation, a seller’s permit number if your business involves retail, etc. If you plan to operate a business that includes activities such as selling or serving alcohol, massage activities, adult oriented activities, etc., you will need to disclose this information on your business license application. When you have filled in all information completely, your signature needs to be provided to certify that you have given only true and accurate information, that you will comply with all state, local, and federal codes and regulations regarding business and that if any information is found to be false, your license could be denied or revoked. When you have completed your business license application, you will return it with all fees and any other forms or paperwork that is needed to City Hall.

What fees will you be expected to pay?

There is an annual fee for a business license and will be due no later than January 31 of each year. If you are late in paying your business license fees, you will incur a late penalty fee before March 31 or more any date thereafter.
