How Do I Go About Obtaining a Business License in Citrus Heights?
The city of Citrus Heights requires that all businesses operating within the city limits obtain a General Business License, excepting entities exempt by state law. Those exceptions include, but are not limited to:
- Banks and financial institutions
- Apartments, rooming houses, duplexes, and facilities in which living space is rented or leased for a period of thirty or more days, and also includes residential homes for adults or children and family day care homes
- Churches, labor union halls and other lodges where there is public assembly
- Public libraries
- Agricultural businesses, unless you are part of an enterprise comprised of an empire of ranches or farms

Are There Other Permits or Licenses Needed to Conduct Business in Citrus Heights?

What Information Will I Need to Complete a Business License Application?
The first thing you will need is a name for your business. On your business license application, you will be asked to state the type of ownership associated with your business, whether it is a partnership, part of a corporation, or a sole proprietorship. Your application will fall into one of three types, being a change of business address, a change of ownership or a new business license. You will need to have a name for you business, as well as a physical address for your business. Any owner contact information is requested, as well as any address and phone numbers associated with your business. Please note that a mailing address is needed in addition to a physical address. If it is applicable, you will need to state the number of employees you plan to hire and any permit or state license numbers you have. You will need to give a brief, but detailed description of your business activities. If you plan to conduct your business from home, you will need to check the appropriate box and submit an additional Home Occupation Clearance form with the business license application. If your business has been determined to require additional special licenses, there is a brief disclosure statement, which asks if there has been any convictions on your license. You must give information regarding any convictions, using additional paper, if necessary. There are several questions asking what goods your business will be selling, distributing or purchasing. Some of these questions include whether you will be dealing in firearms, if you plan to operate an adult-oriented business, handling foods in a vehicle such as an ice-cream truck, home repair, or massage. When you sign your business license application, it becomes public record, so it must be complete and accurate. When you are done filling out your application and any other applicable forms, you will return it to the City of Citrus Heights at 6237 Fountain Square Drive, Citrus Heights, CA 95621. What Fees Are Associated with Obtaining My Business License?
For a general business license, you will initially have a $75.00 fee, $25.00 of which goes toward processing and $50.00 to the actual license fee. The renewal of your business license will be $50.00 annually. If you are required to have a special business license, you will pay $125.00 initially, and annually, as well as a $49.00 fee for the Department of Justice fingerprinting and background check.
