Do I need a business license to operate?
Most businesses engaged in activities either sold
or performed will need to apply for and obtain a business
license, specialty license, or permit.
Are there separate state, city and county
licenses?
While doing business in Nevada, you will first need
to start by filing for the State of Nevada Business
License and Tax Registration. The form is named “Nevada
Business Registration/Department of Taxation.” After
registering with the state, visit your local county
and city to find out if other licensing or permits
are needed. This can usually easily be done by visiting
the city or county website!
What licenses are there?
Depending on your business entity (type of business,
i.e., sole proprietor, corporation, etc.) and business
activities, here are licenses or registrations you
may need:
• Federal Tax ID
• Nevada State Tax ID Number
• Nevada DBA
• Nevada LLC
• Nevada Trademark
• Nevada Incorporation
• Nevada Business License
• Nevada Wholesale License
Each city has its own business license. You may
also need to obtain a specialty licenses (Gaming License,
Liquor License, etc.) or permit for your business.
Contact your local Business Licensing Department
through the city or county for more information on
which license to apply for and licensing fees.
Where do I get the licensing forms?
Most forms are available online through your state
and local city websites. You can apply online
in most cities. You may also download a copy of the application
and mail it in.
What forms will I need to apply?
Every business requires the State of Nevada Business
Registration. You will need to attach a copy of this
with your city business license application.
Every business that is working under a DBA filing
is required to have a Filing of Fictitious Firm Name
Certificate for the County Clerk.
If your business is involved in any sales, you may
need a copy of your City Gross Fee Schedule. This
will help determine the cost of your cities Business
License.
What is the licensing process for Nevada?
The state of Nevada has a licensing packet that can
be downloaded from the state website along with a
checklist. This list may include:
- Obtaining a business name and its appropriate filings
(DBA will file for a Fictitious Firm Name)
- If your business is a Corporation or LLC you must
register with the Secretary of State, located at 555
E. Washington
