Do You Have All the Necessary Information to Fill Out Your Redlands Business License Application?

Your Redlands business license application is used to gather certain information on your business so that your business is taxed properly and essentially registered with the city.  In order to fill out your application completely, you will need to have a business name, a physical address and a mailing address for your business.  You will need to declare the type of business you are conducting, whether it is retail, contracting, rentals, professional services, or manufacturing.  Based on the type of business you are operating and the number of employees you are hiring, you will calculate your business taxes.  The ownership type, meaning sole ownership, corporation, partnership or trust should be provided, and depending on this information, you may need to obtain a FEIN (federal employer’s ID number) state tax ID number, contractor’s license etc.  All owners should be named and their contact information should be given and the application signed to prove that you have provided only true and accurate information.  Any mistake or miscalculations could slow down the process of your business license being issued, so be particular about the information you are providing, and if you need assistance in completing the application, or have questions, don’t hesitate to call the City Clerk’s Office at (530)225-4056.

Are You Planning to Run a Redlands Home Business?

You will need to apply for a business license, and in addition, you will need to file a home occupation affidavit.  This affidavit states that you are familiar with and agree to all the restrictions and conditions outlined in the document.  You will need to describe your business and give your business contact information, including email, fax and cell phone.  Some of the restrictions that are associated with operating a home based business include (but are not limited to):

  1. No outward appearance of a business being conducted on the premises
  2. No noise, vibration, electrical interference, glare, or odors that are in excess of what would be normally found in a residence
  3. Customers or clients that are not entering your residence for therapy, education, or counseling services are not permitted
  4. Storage and equipment are limited
  5. No flammable materials are acceptable
  6. No deliveries other than general mail or package carrying

Any questions regarding your home occupation permit should be directed to the City Clerk’s Office at (530)225-4056.

Will I Need Other Redlands Licenses or Permits?

You may, depending on the type of business you plan to conduct.  If you plan to offer food at your business, you will likely need a health permit.  Alcoholic beverages being served or sold on your premises may require that you discuss your business with the Alcoholic Beverage Control board.  Contact the City Clerk’s Office at (530)225-4056 to discuss your business activities to determine if you will need additional licenses or permits.
