Where Do I Find Information About Obtaining a Marriage License in Fort Lauderdale, Florida?

Marriage licenses are issued from the Clerk of Courts in Broward County.  You may visit the location nearest to you to apply for your marriage license.  Your spouse to be will need to be present at the time of application and you will both need to provide information about yourselves and any previous marriages that you have had.  If you and/or the person you plan to marry is under the age of 18, you will be required to have a parental consent form which is available from the Clerk of Courts, a birth certificate bearing both parents names, and if either parent has sole custody an original custody order will need to be provided.  If one or both parents is deceased, a death certificate will be submitted.  Additionally, both parties must have a child together or must be expecting a child together and proof will need to be provided.  Minors under the age of 16 will need to contact the clerk for information on how to obtain a marriage license.  The Clerk of Courts can be reached at (954)831-6525 extension 7842. 

Do I Need to Bring Any Identification to Obtain a Marriage License?

Both the bride and the groom will need to have two forms of ID when they apply for their marriage license: a picture ID and a social security card (or number).  The acceptable forms of ID are a valid US driver’s license from any state, a state issued ID card, a military ID or a passport.  If you are not a US citizen, an alien registration card can be used in lieu of a social security card.  If you have neither a social security number or a alien registration number, additional identification will be required, and you will want to be in contact with the Clerk of Courts to discuss what type of ID will be adequate.  They can be reached at (954)831-6525 ext 7842.  Minors whose parents are listed on their birth certificate but whose names do not match the names provided on any documentation listed above will be required to bring additional ID as well.

What Information Will I Need to Provide On My Marriage License Application?

Couples that are filling out their marriage license will need to be present at the Clerk of Courts together and will need to give their full legal names, addresses, state or country and date of birth, race and if there are any previous marriages, there will need to be an exact date that the marriage ended and the circumstances for the marriage ending, whether death, divorce or annulment.  Couples can choose to preregister online through the Fort Lauderdale Marriage License, but will still need to apply at the Clerk of Courts to complete the marriage license application.  If you and your spouse have completed any approved marriage preparation classes you will need to declare this on your marriage license application and bring a certificate of completion along with you when you apply for your Fort Lauderdale marriage license. 

Where Can I Apply for a Fort Lauderdale Marriage License?

There are five locations that are available to visit apply for your marriage license.  Aside from the One Stop Division of the Clerk of Courts, all the locations are opened from 8:00am-4:30pm Monday through Friday.  The One Stop Division is opened from 9:00am-5:30pm Monday through Friday.  Stop by the most convenient location to apply for your marriage license during these hours.

How Much Will I Pay for a Fort Lauderdale, Florida Marriage License?

The cost of a marriage license in Fort Lauderdale is $93.50 for couples who have not attended and completed the optional premarital preparation course.  If you and your bride or groom have taken and completed the course, your cost for a marriage license is $61.00.  You must be able to provide a certificate of completion when applying for your marriage license to receive the discounted price.  There is the option to have your marriage ceremony preformed at the Clerk of Courts Office for an additional $30.00.  Except for the One Stop Division which does not accept checks, you may pay by cash, money order, credit card and check.

Is There Any Other Information That I Need to Know About Marriage Licenses in Fort Lauderdale, Florida?

• If you and/or your intended spouse are Florida residents, and you have elected not to attend the premarital preparedness course, you will have a mandatory three day waiting period after you have your marriage license to marry.  This three day wait does not apply to non-residents or those couples who have taken the marriage preparation class.
