We are planning our wedding in San Mateo. Where do we go to apply for our marriage license?

You can go to the San Mateo County Clerk’s office to apply for your marriage license. The San Mateo County Clerk’s office is located on the first floor at 555 County Center, Redwood City, California. At the County Clerk’s office, you will fill out the marriage license application and pay a fee. If you would like to contact the County Clerk’s office, you can call (650) 363-4500.

The San Mateo County Clerk’s office provides marriage license services from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Can we submit the marriage license application online?

Yes, but even if you submit your marriage license application online you still need to appear in person at the San Mateo County Clerk’s office within 60 days in order to receive your license. You can complete the marriage license application online on the San Mateo County Clerk’s office website at San Mateo Marriage License.

What are the requirements to receive a marriage license in San Mateo, California?

You must both be 18 years old or older at the time that you apply. You must present a form of photo I.D. such as a driver’s license.

You must be unmarried to receive a marriage license. If either one of you has been divorced in the last 90 days, that person must present the court document of final dissolution.
