Are You Looking for Information Regarding Business Licensing in Springfield, Illinois?

The Office of Business Licensing issues business licenses in the city of Springfield.  You can apply for a business license by visiting them at 7th & Monroe on the first floor of the Municipal Center West between the hours of 8:00am and 4:30pm Monday through Friday.  Those that need specialty licenses for businesses such as transportation services, events that do not include alcohol, short-term outdoor sales, a sidewalk cafe, etc. can print an application from the City of Springfield website.  If you require only a general business license, and do not require any specialty licenses, you will need to apply in person to the Office of Business Licensing. 

Have You Gathered All Necessary Information to Apply for a Springfield Business License

There is specific information that is important to include on your business license applications.  All types of business license applications require your name, address, and contact telephone. Additionally, you will need to provide a business name, physical and mailing address for your business and all phone numbers that are associated with your business.  If you have partners the same information and a signature is generally required for each of them as well.  Corporations should information specific to the corporation, such as the signature of the president or CEO and main financial officer. 

Once you have completed your application, it will be returned to the City Clerk where it will be forwarded to the license inspector for inspection and approval.  If your business should require further inspection or should your application be denied, you will be contacted by the City Clerk to bring your business into compliance with any codes or provisions.  You will need to request a hearing within ten days to give explanation of why your application should be approved.  A hearing will then be arranged within thirty days of your written request being received.  If you do not request a hearing within ten days, you will have waived your appeal rights and you will not receive a business license.  If your business passes all inspections, your application will be recommended for approval. 

Once you have paid your fees, you will then be issued a business license.  Your Springfield business license will be valid for one calendar year, expiring on December 31, annually.  Your business license fees are due at the time of renewal, in full each year.  Your business license renewal will take the same process for renewal that was used for the original licensing.  Your license is non-transferable and the original terms apply only to the specific location and name of the original business name and location.  If this information changes, you will need to apply for change of license information through the City Clerk no less than fourteen days prior to any change in your business activities, location, or name.  Be aware that the City of Springfield holds the right to inspect any business at any time.
