Looking to operate a business in Schaumburg, Illinois?

Anyone operating a business in Schaumburg will need to apply for and be issued a business license. A general business license application can be found online at the Village of Schaumburg website. You may also request an application in person by visiting the Finance Department at 101 Schaumburg Court. In addition to a business license, new businesses will need to have a certificate of occupancy from the Community Development Department. They can be reached at (847) 923-4420. You will need your certificate of occupancy prior to applying for your business license. Receiving your business license will be dependent on being issued your certificate of occupancy. Once you have your certificate of occupancy, you will complete your business license application and return it along with your business license fees to the Finance Department. 

What information is required to complete a business license application for the Village of Schaumburg?

The application for a Schaumburg business license can be filled out online and printed to return to the Finance Department. There are fields that must be filled in on the online application, which are indicated with a red asterisk. This information includes the name of your business, the address of your business, and contact phone numbers for your business. Information on yourself, such as your full name, your home address, your driver’s license number, your date of birth, and your phone number should be provided. You will need to give a detailed description of the business activities that you plan to conduct and a business type, meaning whether you are operating a retail, manufacturing, office, industrial, etc. type of business. 

You will need to give any corporation information, such as the name of the president or owner of the corporation, a corporate address, etc. if your business is part of a larger corporation. It is important that you include the business entity that you are involved in, meaning if your business is part of a larger private or public corporation, a partnership, an association, or owned solely. Leaving any of these areas blank will delay your business licenses application being accepted. Supplemental information including information regarding any revocation of past business licenses or whether any of the owners or officers of your business has been arrested or have any felony convictions involving any moral judgement. 

Be sure to sign your business license application stating that you have provided only true and accurate information and that you will comply with all ordinances, laws, and codes that are set in place to operate a business, whether they are local, state, and/or federal. Are there costs associated with obtaining a Schaumburg business license?

Your business license costs are calculated based on the type and number of business licenses you need. There is a business license fee schedule on the second page of the business license application and online at the Village of Schaumburg website. If your business license is issued after July 1, your first set of annual fees will be prorated by half. Contact the Finance Department for information on business license fees and for assistance in calculating your fees. They are available at (847) 895-4500.
