How do I obtain a business license in High Point, North Carolina?

To obtain a business license in North Point, you will need to apply either in person or by downloading it from the City of High Point website. Those that are applying for a home business license will also need to apply for a home occupation permit, available online or at the Business License Section of High Point. They are located at 211 South Hamilton Street in High Point. 

What is the cost for a High Point business license?

Your business license costs will be determined based either on the type of business that you engage in or by a gross receipt estimate for your first year of business. Expect to pay from $10.00 for a business such as a professional solicitor up to $3,500 for a public service company. You will need to contact the Business License Section at (336) 883-3205 for information regarding costs associated with your business license. Business license fees are due annually by June 30. 

If you are applying for a business license after January 1, your first year's fees will be prorated by half. Be aware that business licenses for beer and wine are due by April 30 and valid through May 30 and will not be prorated for any date of application. Your business license fees will need to be remitted at the time of completing your application to the Business License Office. You may either bring a check, cash, money order, or credit card or pay online at www.high-point.net.

What information is necessary to complete a High Point business license?

Your business license application can be completed by providing information regarding your business and information on you as the business owner. Note that your business license application must be completed either by the business owner or an authorized agent only. You will need to provide the type of ownership that your business is under, whether it is owned individually or by a corporation or a partnership. Include a description of your business, the number of employees that you plan to hire, whether you are the owner of your business building, and the date your business is set to open. Be sure that you provide a physical address and a mailing address for your business location, the name of your business, and a phone number for your business as well as the name and a phone number for the manager of your business. 

You will need to submit your name and all valid contact information and the name and contact information for all owners of your business. A gross sales estimate for the fiscal year and the date your fiscal year ends are to be included on your application. When you have signed and dated your application to verify that your information is true and complete and that you are in compliance with all codes and regulations regarding the operation of a business in North Carolina, you will return it to the Business License Office. You may hand it in personally at 211 S. Hamilton Street or if you wish, mail it to PO Box 230 High Point, NC 27261. What information is required for a home occupation letter of intent?

You will need to provide most of the same information for a home occupation letter of intent that you provided on your business license application. In addition, you will need to fill out information regarding the use of your home as a base for your home, such as the square footage that will be dedicated to your business activities, how you plan to store items and materials for your business, whether your business activities will generate any nuisance byproducts such as vibration, smoke, excess traffic, etc. You will need to give a description of your business activities, the number employees that you plan to hire, and all contact information associated with your business. The home occupation letter of intent should be returned to the Business License Office along with a one-time fee of $40.00. If your address changes, you will need to repay the $40.00 and resubmit your application.
