Are You Planning to Operate a Business in Concord, North Carolina?

To operate a business in Concord, you will need to have a business license (also called a local privilege license) from the Concord Tax Collector Office, located at 26 Union Street, South in Concord.  You may download a business license application from the City of Concord website or request one in person at the above address between 8:00am and 5:00pm.

Do You Need Zoning Approval?

Most businesses will be required to obtain a zoning permit from the Development Services Department.  This step should be taken early in the business licensing process, prior to signing any lease or purchase on any commercial property.   Be aware that you may need zoning approval for a home business, on new construction or property that has previously been used as a business location.  Contact the Development Services Department at (704)920-2128 for more information and to determine your zoning requirements.

What Are the Costs For a Concord Business License?

Business license fees and taxes are calculated based on your business type, your category of business and other determining criteria.  On your business license application, there are tax fee schedules that you will use to determine your costs.  If you are in need of assistance in calculating your business license fees, you may contact the Tax Collector’s Office at (702)920-5216. 

What Information Should You Expect to Provide for your Concord Business License Application?

You will need to provide basic information about yourself and your business for you application.  Some of this information includes your contact information, a business corporation name, if your business is part of a larger corporation, and a business manager’s name and phone number.  A brief description of your business activities is requested, as well as the physical and mailing address of your business, all contact phone numbers associated with your business, and a gross receipt total.  You will need to provide your signature to verify that you have provided true and accurate information on your Concord business license application.  Be aware that you will be required to reapply annually for a Concord business license, and that your business license will expire by June 30 of each year.  If you have not reapplied to renew your business license and/or paid your business license fees by August 1, your business fees are subject to a 5% interest fee monthly until you have remitted your payment.
