What are the Business-Specific Licenses?
Layton requires business-specific licenses for certain types of business. Layton also requires a commercial interior floor plan for sites that are 1,500 square feet and larger, as well as a completed fire and life safety checklist.

Home Occupation License: Compliance questions ensuring that you home business meets all relevant federal, state, and local regulations, and a formal agreement from your property owner/manager if you are a renter.
Commercial License: Details regarding the location of your business, information you want posted on Layton’s website, information regarding whether the applicant is a sole-proprietor or a corporation/partnership/limited liability, and emergency contacts for public safety information.
Solicitor License: A BCI Report less than 180 days old, proof of identification, proof of registration with the Department of Commerce, Application for Criminal History Records Review, Special Event Sales Tax Number, two recent photos of the applicant (1 ½ “ x 1 ½ “), any licenses or permits required to transact your business, marketing information including details of the goods or services offered, answers to a series of disqualifying status questions, and a series of written disclosures.
Mobile Store Application: Site information, a site plan, a written business description, answers to a series of compliance questions, and a commercial property agreement.
Off-Site Sales/Single Event License: A temporary state sales tax number, site information, a site plan, a written business description, and answers to a series of compliance questions.
Residential Day Care License: Answers to a series of site plan review questions, answers to a series of compliance statements, and a concurrent home occupation license.
Residential Pre-School License: Same as Residential Day Care License.
What Else Is Required?
Upon submittal of your business license application, Layton’s Planning Division will review your application to ensure that it is appropriately zoned, or if a conditional use permit is required. Layton’s Planning Division can be reached at 801-336-3780.
Further, a building permit is necessary for any changes or additions to your facility. Layton’s Building Division oversees issues regarding building permits and can be reached at 801-336-3760. If you are opening a commercial business, you are required to undergo an inspection from Layton’s Building and Licensing Division and an inspection from Layton’s Fire Department.
If your business handles food, an inspection from the Davis County Health Department is also required. Once all requirements have been met, Layton will mail you a business license and occupancy certificate.
