General Information
Any for profit business that operates within the city limits of Hillsboro is required to obtain a City of Hillsboro Business License. If you are in the Construction/Landscaping or in Food Services, other regulations may apply. Non-profit organizations are still required to complete an exemption certificate. What is the cost?
The minimum amount is $105 for the initial fee. The fee breakdown is as follows:
- A one-time $80 application fee
- $25 Base Business License fee, which includes the first 2 employees or owners
- $5 fee for each additional employee with a maximum of $750 in employee fees
The Base Business License fee along with the additional employee fees are to be renewed annually.
What if I have a home-based business?
Anyone who operates a for-profit business from home is required to obtain the standard business license as well as a Home Occupation Permit (there is no additional cost for the permit).
How long does it take to receive the license?
Generally you will receive your license within a week upon receipt of the application. If you are able to visit the Civic Center office on the fifth floor, the wait is usually no more than 5 to 10 minutes. Once you have the license you are permitted to operate your business.
