What Do You Need to Obtain a Business License in Rio Rancho?
If you plan to open a business within the municipal limits of the city of Rio Rancho, you are required to apply for your CRS or Tax Identification Number. The City Clerk's Office has all of the forms for your business License Registration, as well as the application for the New Mexico State Tax Identification Numbers. They are located at Rio Rancho City Hall, room 150. After completing your Business Registration application, it must be signed off at the Development Services Department in room 130 before registration is issued. Are You Opening a Commercial Business?
If your business is operating from a commercial location, you will be seeking a Commercial Business License and will need to fill out the Business Registration Application form. This one and a half page application requires you to name your business, state the type of business you will be conducting and where your business will be located. Do You Plan to Operate a Business from Your Home?
Using your residence to run your business will require a few more applications than a Commercial Business. You will be required to submit a Business Registration Application, as well as a Home Occupation Permit Application and a Home Occupation Fire Inspection Criteria Form. The Home Occupation Permit Application is a four page document outlining specific requirements, rules and regulations for operating a home business. There are several detailed questions on how your residence will be used to operate your business.You can download the application from the Rio Rancho website. This application, along with the Business Registration Application must be taken to Rio Rancho City Hall, room 130 to the Development Services Depart for sign off before a registration will be issued. Lastly, you are required to fill out a Home Occupation Fire Inspection Criteria Form for your home business. This simple form asks you to state if you are caring for adults or children in your home, storing flammable or hazardous liquids, or using any type of chemical for your business. If your home business requires any of these things, you must obtain a fire inspection.
If your business is not located within the municipal limits of Rio Rancho, you are still required to fill out the Business Registration Application.
What Are the Required Fees to Run a Business in Rio Rancho?
There is a $35 registration fee which is non-refundable to apply for a business license in Rio Rancho. This is an annual fee, and so must be paid to the City of Rio Rancho each year that you run your business. If you are running a Home Occupation Business, there is a one time fee of $67 for a Home Occupation permit in addition to the $35 annual registration fee.
