How can a Fall River marriage license be applied for in Massachusetts?

The Massachusetts marriage license can only be applied for in one way in the City of Fall River, by going to the City of Fall River’s City Clerk’s Office to complete and file an application. In the State of Massachusetts, the marriage license is called the Marriage Certificate.  However, it is critical to have you and your fiancé’s vital information with you prior to going to the City Clerk’s Office. The information that will be asked for on the Marriage Certificate Application will be:

  • Your full names (they must be your legal names and not nicknames)
  • Addresses, residential and mailing are required as well as where you want the Marriage Certificate sent
  • Date of birth, both you and your fiancé’s
  • Your employment type
  • Number of previous marriages and the date they officially ended, indicate if it was by death or divorce, death certificates are not required if that was the case, if there is or was a Civil-Union or state created Domestic Partnership
  • Social security numbers
  • Birthplaces of you and your fiancé
  • Names and birthplaces of parents, please include all 
  • Gender of you and your spouse to be
  • Disclosure if applicants are closely related by blood, such as grandparents or siblings
  • Signatures and dates
  • Currently, the marriage license application or the Massachusetts Marriage License Form is not available online due to the fact that the Fall River City Clerk wishes you and your spouse to be to physically go in person together, to apply. Under dire circumstances, such as deployment under the armed forces, the Fall River City Clerk will make an exception to being required to apply in person.
