Those who will operate a business that provides a resale service such as: salvage dealers, antique dealers, second-hand dealers, junk dealers, transient merchants and door-to-door dealers. Additionally, there are certain commercial entrepreneurs that must have a Business License to conduct business in the City. How May I Apply for a Business License in Lancaster, Pennsylvania?
You may print the Business License Application from the City’s website at Lancaster Pennsylvania Business License Website. Once you complete the application, you may either mail it or you may physically go to the City of Lancaster’s Office at 120 North Duke Street, Lancaster, PA 17608-1599 to submit it in person. It is essential that you get your Business License Application notarized, otherwise it will be denied. To ensure speedy processing also submit a $25.00 fee by check, made payable to the City of Lancaster and a completed background check. The Background Check Application can be obtained https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp.
Just as with the Business License Application, the Background Check Application can be printed from online but it cannot be submitted online, it may be dropped off in person or turned in through the mail, Lancaster Bureau of Police, 39 West Chestnut Street, Lancaster, PA 17608-1599. In general, your Business License is valid for one year and is renewed by the same time each year, March 31st. Even if you received your Business License was issued on a different date, your Business License will expire on March 31st. To renew your Business License you must remit the $25 fee along with the renewal form which you will receive in the mail.

This is an entrepreneur that operates, sells, or solicits door-to-door. Please be aware that this license does not allow street vending. Just as with a standard Business License, a Vendor or Peddler’s License must be submitted with a $25 check and the completed Background Check Form.
