In the city of Wilmington, you will need to apply for, and be issued a business license to operate a business within the city limits. You may obtain a business license application by visiting the Business License Division of the City of Wilmington at 800 North French Street. Will You Need Other Permits or Licenses?
If you plan to apply for mechanical refrigeration, air conditioning, boiler installation, heating and/or plumbing contractor’s licenses, you will need to contact the Chief Plumbing Inspector to take a trade test prior to obtaining a business license. Those that plan to operate a restaurant or sell edible items will need to have a copy of their Board of Health certificate prior to obtaining a business license. Some businesses will need to contact the IRS for a federal employer’s ID number, or the State of Delaware for a state license number. There may be other businesses that require licenses and permits beyond your business license, whether local, state and/or federal. - Description of the nature of the business
