You will need to contact the City Clerk's Office at (909) 384-5335 to discuss your proposed business activities. They will help you to determine what steps you need to take to obtain your business registration certificate. Generally, you will then need to contact the Development Department before purchasing or leasing any business property to discuss zoning clearance regarding your business. When you have certified that your business passes zoning regulations, you will then need to fill out and submit an application for business registration. This application can be obtained from the City Clerk’s office. This office is located at 300 North "D" Street, second floor, in San Bernardino. If you wish, you can print the application from the City of San Bernardino website. The application is a short, one-page document that gathers information on your proposed business activities and the amount of gross receipts that your business will potentially make. You need to provide a physical address for your business, as well as a mailing address and a telephone number. Your name and contact information (or that of the owner) needs to be given, and the type of ownership your business will be under, whether sole proprietorship, partnership, or corporation. The number of employees you plan to hire, and the square-footage of your business location need to be stated. In addition, if applicable, you will need to obtain and provide the following: partnership tax ID number, corporation ID number, both state and federal employer ID numbers etc. You may need to contact other entities for these numbers. When you have signed your application stating that you have provided only true and complete information, you will return it to the City Clerk’s Office at 300 North ‘D’ street, second floor, in San Bernardino. 

Do you need to obtain other San Bernardino permits or licenses?

It is a possibility that depending on the type of San Bernardino business you plan to conduct, you may need to apply for and be issued other licenses. An example of an additional license would be if you were planning to open a restaurant, you would very likely need to obtain a health permit.
