Apply For A Business License Rancho Cucamonga, California

If your plan is to open a business in Rancho Cucamonga, you will need to file an application for a business license either by printing one off the Rancho Cucamonga website, or by visiting the City of Rancho Cucamonga Business License Division at 10500 Civic Center Drive.

What is needed before I open my business?

Before applying for your business license, you will need to contact the Planning Division at (909) 477-2750 to determine if your property is in the correct zone for operating your type of business. Certain zones restrict or prohibit certain business activities and you will need to know whether the building that you have chosen is approved for your proposed business. It is wise to check zoning restrictions before you enter into any real estate contracts on any property. It is possible that you will also need Rancho Cucamonga permits or licenses on the federal, state, and local level. For example, you may need to obtain a FEIN (federal employer’s ID number) if you are planning to hire any employees or if you are not the sole owner of your business. This number can be obtained by contacting the IRS directly or you can visit a local tax office to pick up the necessary forms for filing for your FEIN. There may be state tax information that you will need to operate your business as well. You may be required to have a health permit if you plan to handle food or certain materials. If your intent is to sell alcohol or serve it, you may need to contact the Alcoholic Beverage Control Department. There may be inspections or approvals that could be required by the Police Department or Fire Department. You should contact the Business License Division to determine which, if any, permits or licenses you will need before commencing your business activities in Rancho Cucamonga.

What information will I need on my Rancho Cucamonga business license application?

The main difference in these two applications is that the general business license application uses gross receipts to calculate your business taxes and the flat-rate business license application does not account for any gross receipts. The flat-rate business license application but is for businesses that pay a flat-rate to operate, such as special activities (swap meets and dances) solicitors and photographers who do not use an office in the city. For a complete list, contact the Rancho Cucamonga Business License Division. Both applications require the following information to be completed in ink or typed:

  2. Physical location of business
  3. Business contact information (fax, phone) and mailing address
  4. Detailed description of business

I want to use my home for my Rancho Cucamonga business location. Is this allowed in Rancho Cucamonga?

It is acceptable to use your home to conduct your business, providing that you file a home occupation permit application and it is approved. You can fill in and print this application from the Rancho Cucamonga website or request it from the Planning Department by calling (909) 477-2750.  The application asks general information about your business and the activities you plan to conduct.  It outlines the definition of a home occupation, and the restrictions and conditions that you will be required to adhere to in order to maintain your home occupation permit. Familiarize yourself with these conditions and requirements. When you will sign the application, you indicate that you understand that you must comply with these conditions and requirements or risk your permit being denied or revoked.
