What information is needed to secure a business license?

When you fill out your business license application, you will need to have a name and physical address for your business, as well as a business phone and a mailing address. You need to give a description of your business activities, your business tax schedule, start date and an estimate of gross receipts. When you declare your ownership type, you will need to supply certain information, depending on your ownership type.

  1. Sole Proprietorship will require that you submit your social security number, a valid driver’s license number, owner name and all contact information.
  2. Partnership requires a Federal and/or State Tax ID number, and a copy of the Certificate of Partnership, names of all partners and their current contact information. 
  3. Corporations are required to have Federal and/or State Tax ID numbers, the names and current contact information of corporate officers. In addition, an officer having authority to sign legal documents should sign on behalf of the corporation.

If you are selling alcohol you will need to contact the Alcohol Beverage Control to obtain your ABC license before you complete your application. 

What other permits or licenses are required?

Certain businesses in El Monte are required to have a business permit. If you have a retail business, you will need to submit a copy of your seller’s permit for the State Board of Equalization. Call (626) 480-7200 for more information regarding a seller’s permit. If you are manufacturing garments, you will need to have a copy of your Garment Manufacturing Certificate from the Labor Board.   10. Newspaper racks
  11. Peddlers
  12. Secondhand dealer
  13. Solicitor
  14. Taxicab
  15. Used car dealers
